Karaoke gaga with Cherry and the 3nity

After full of week of vocal practice and brainstorming for their upcoming gigs, Cherry and the rest of the Ilonggo 3nity such as Sheila Barrios and Reyn Callao with the rslphoenix music team took a break. This time, they head on for a karaoke gaga night to the city in the evening of July 20. Their first stop is Marina Bar and Restaurant in the partyphille central of Iloilo, Diversion Road where the nightlife strip Smallville is located nearby. They met with the band called “Nytshift” under Totong Villaruz bands at Marina that will make their first group mini-concert gig on August 13 possible. The show is earlier entitled “Please Don’t Stop The Music 2010” live at Bo.Obrero Public Plaza as the Ilonggo 3nity’s first gig together. Plans and full production of the pop event is still in planning stage along with their rehearsals.
After an hour of watching the band played their mainstream repertoire that entertains the ballroom dancing crowed (it was the birthday party of the restaurant owner), the group headed to a nearby karaoke resto. The swinging nightlife at Smallville did not attract the group since their vocal chords are clamouring for some singing practice (sooo excited for their next month event, I should say). For the next, three to four hours, Reyn, Sheila and Cherry Callao, the next solo Ilongga singer to be introduced by rslphoenix music later this July sang their heart out to their favourite songs at the Karaoke. Reyn conquers the rock ballad pieces like Faithfully, Too Much Love will Kill You, Carrie, etc. Sheila and Cherry sang ballad favourites like I Love You Goodbye, All This Time and a lot more. What can you expect from a group of young vocalists but impressive drama over karaoke gaga.
Well, it was a night to remember as they prepare for their first few gigs to come. We hope that the best is yet to come for Ilonggo 3nity and rslphoenix music. Many thanks to Angelbert and Tad Abadiano for the creative support of the upcoming event.

It’s now or never ... (soon)

Cherry’s Spice world

If you think about pop as bubblegum or shallow danceable tune played with repetitive lyrics over the radio, then you must have missed the point. Pop is defined beyond of what is current and trend. It is sometimes the artistic statement of artists, music artists to be specific.

Cherry Callao is a child of pop music. She grew up listening to anything played over the radio when she was very young. To be specific, she’s one of the spice girls in their neighbourhood when the pop phenom girl band was on the peak of their domination in the late 1990s. Her neighbour who used to be a Spice Girls fanatic would sometimes trained them to dance and lip-synced the popstars in front of a lot of people during community events. Cherry was only 5 years old back then but her innate talent for dancing and desire to entertain people is genuine. Gifted with curly hair, brown skin and angelic face, Cherry is the younger version of Scary Spice Melanie B.

But time passed by and the little “scary spice” learned a lot in life. She’s now a high school student who never gave up her passion to perform and develop an inclination for singing. How can she deny her innate talent for music when she was actually came from a family of singers and musicians? Her dad used to be a musician who knows how to play any kind of instruments in a band and her mom is a gifted singer. Additional proof of her affinity for music was her siblings who are singers and performers including Reyn Callao, another rising Ilonggo singer.

Cherry’s true self as a performing artist manifests every time she’s on stage, making it her little “spice world” where she could bend her hips, sway flawlessly and belt out her soft soulful voice. Singing and dance contests in school has always been her venue to prove her innate talents. Though she mostly grabbed the top spot or sometimes ended up second placer, Cherry posses the natural drive and perseverance to improve herself one step at time. During a summer break with her older brother in Manila, she never let the chance to slip away to be a part of a show band. Her experience of performing with the band night after night further honed her talent for music and boosts her self-confidence.

With the recent emergence of her brother, Reyn Callao as a fast-rising Ilonggo RnB singer, Cherry got the eye of rslphoenix music, a team of Ilonggo artists and music producers. As the third artist to be launched by the team right after Reyn and her cousin, Sheila Barrios, Cherry was enthusiastic to accept the challenge of becoming another local Ilonggo singer. Not just a singer but a true performing dance diva to sure. Soon, her chemistry with Reyn and Sheila will unveil another pop statement.

But for now, Cherry has to prove herself better as a solo artist by releasing two back-to-back debut singles “Ikaw Guid Lang”, an Ilonggo remake of pop-ballad by late 1980s singer, Tiffany and the danceable techno-pop “Text Me” featuring Sheila Barrios and Ilonggo rap artist Ramz Dee. The release date is set on July 15, 2010.

Prepare to let this rising Ilonggo popstar make her artistic statement. Enter the spice-world of Cherry Callao!
